3SS launches new Android TV services

By JΓΆrn Krieger

German multiscreen software solutions provider 3 Screen Solutions (3SS) is offering new advances for Android TV deployments, delivering further choices and benefits to operators and their subscribers.

With 3Ready Assistant, enabled by the 3Ready Android TV Operator Tier Custom Launcher, an operator can now create its own set of commands to trigger a wide range of desired actions in the app which the viewer might like to do: These new commands range from customer support related actions including billing queries through to PVR instructions and management of advanced parental control features, among other use cases.

Furthermore, the operator can define and customise all these options in any Google Assistant compatible language. This is a major benefit, promoting subscriber loyalty by enabling deeper engagement with the service using voice technology, according to 3SS.

“Android TV-based deployments are now widely acknowledged as capable of delivering game-changing entertainment experiences to viewers, alongside myriad operational advantages to service providers, as exemplified by Com Hem Tv Hub,” said 3SS managing director Kai-Christian Borchers.

“With our new service 3Ready Assistant, we are enabling service providers to even further differentiate their offerings from competitors, enhancing customer satisfaction by offering new capabilities, better discoverability, ultimately maximising business potential,” Borchers added. “3Ready is making the Google Assistant more useful for operators, helping them transform the way people think about and interact with their pay-TV service.”

3SS is also one of the first providers in the industry to introduce cloud-to-cloud based Google Assistant integration. This new cloud-centric system configuration option offered by Google differs from conventional device-centric integration projects. Cloud-based Android TV systems enable the operator to more seamlessly manage service delivery on multiple devices in parallel to the set-top-box, according to 3SS. Additionally, the operator can control up to three watch actions which the user can select from within the Google Assistant. In contrast, with on-device implementations, only one watch action can be presented.

3Ready cloud-to-cloud integration also enables operators to remotely optimise and personalise search results, and achieve speedier search results.

Bomb blast hits Greek Skai TV

By Chris Dziadul

A bomb has exploded outside the headquarters of Skai TV, one of Greece’s leading commercial broadcasters.

In a statement on its site, collating international reports by AP and Reuters, Skai TV says a strong explosion broke the windows and flattened the station’s offices in Athens.

It adds that no one was injured.

The reports also say the explosion bore similarities to one outside the Loukeros Court of Appeal in central Athens on December 22, 2017, for which the far-left ‘People’s Fighter Group’ claimed responsibility.

Skai TV is part of a media group that includes Kathimerini, Greece’s leading daily newspaper.

PostTV launches Entertain Me! a la carte pay-TV package on IPTV

By Robert Briel

Luxemburg-based PostTV is implementing a new pay-TV feature onto its IPTV-platform, offering a la carte tiering of channels.

Entertain Me! is a subscription-based package available for customers, offering up to 100 channels in multiple languages. This array of content offers programming for the young, sports, as well as movies and series.

The main attraction of this new bouquet is its customisability. Instead of offering sets of channels for the viewers, the users are now able to decide which (and how many) channels to include in the package. Channels can be added independently and removed just as easily: all subscriptions are based on a monthly runtime, which entails that users can easily opt out of existing subscriptions at the end of the month.

Alteox Media Consulting is the partner of Post Luxembourg for this pioneering project.

“PostTV is a progressive and modern company, always on the lookout for innovation in their market.”, said Sven Breckler, CEO of Alteox.

“When we approached them with this novel idea, of giving the audience more choice over content, it didn’t need much convincing to get them onboard.”
